The add-on drive which turns an Xbox 360 into an HD DVD player was officially released in the UK today. For £129.99 you get the add-on drive, a Universal Media Remote, and for a limited time you’ll also receive a copy of Peter Jackson’s King Kong on HD DVD.
With pre-orders having made mince meat out of the launch stock, it appears that anyone looking to pick up the player this weekend may be out of luck. In fact, you could be paying up to £250 to get your hands on the player if you want one now.
A quick glance over on eBay at the recent sellers shows that an HD DVD Player add-on sold this morning for £249.99 plus £10 postage and packing.
Unless you’re made of money and are willing to pay twice the retail price for the unit, your only option is to wait until Microsoft can deliver more stock to meet the high demand.
