Check your diaries to make sure you have some free time on May 12th 2005. Microsoft is to reveal their next console in a half an hour show that will be broadcast globally on all MTV stations. This comes four days before the industry giant was expected to announce its new console at the customary pre-E3 conference on May 16th.
“It doesn’t make sense to unveil the product behind a closed door, at a trade-only event. We wanted to talk directly to the consumer first,” said Peter Moore, corporate vp-worldwide marketing and publishing for Microsoft Xbox.
The MTV special, hosted by Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood, will feature performances by the Killers, while celebrities will be showing off the new features of the next Microsoft console. Launch parties will also be held in all countries in which MTV airs.
