Following the recent announcement that Japanese development luminaries Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yoshiki Okamoto are all working on titles for Microsoft’s Xbox 2/Xbox 360/Xbox whatever in God’s name they end up calling it, Kim said that “We always give our partners almost all of the license that they need. We don’t want to tell any of our partners what kind of game they should be making.”

Using Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the man behind Rez and the Sony PSP’s Lumines, as an example, Kim whetted the gaming world’s appetite by saying that Mizuguchi has “a great idea for a title, we love it, we want to get behind him, and I’m confident that it’s going to be successful for us both in Japan and outside.”

While these developers are not restricted to work solely on Xbox 2 software, Kim made it clear that Microsoft want the trio to “be passionate about wanting to tie their cart to our horse, and they’ve got to be passionate that the platform is going to enable them, whether it’s Xbox or Xbox Live, for example, to help them realize their creative visions.”

Despite the non-exclusivity of these developers’ arrangements with Microsoft, this is undoubtedly a major coup for the American giant, and will hopefully herald a major turnaround in the company’s fortunes in the Far East, especially after their debut console’s infamously abysmal Japanese performance ever since its release there in 2002.
