EGOSOFT has announced that they will be releasing X3: Reunion on PC in Q3 2005. The developer had planned to release an expansion to X2: The Threat, but that has now been cancelled, with X3 being the next game in the series. A console version has also been announced but details have not yet been revealed.

X3: Reunion is built on an engine that makes full use of DirectX 9 technology, which enables players to be part of one of the most realistic worlds ever created. Bernd Lehahn, CEO of EGOSOFT commented on the latest game in the series. He said:

“‘X3: Reunion’ will see another huge leap in the evolution of space trading games. The decision to bring X3 forward, allows for many community ideas to be implemented. X2 set a benchmark to be beaten, and ‘X3: Reunion’ will surpass this in every way possible.”
