Chaos: The Battle of Wizards creator Julian Gollop is turning to Kickstarter to crowd-fund Chaos Reborn, a modern version of the 1985 ZX Spectrum title.
Gollop is most famous for his work on the X-COM series.
“Why am I choosing to update this old game?” he wrote. “Because it was a unique game with simple, yet fascinating game mechanics that guaranteed a unique experience each time you played it. The premise was straightforward – you controlled a wizard with a limited number of spells in an arena with enemy wizards, and you had to be the last wizard standing to win the game. I want to take the core mechanics of the original Chaos and expand on them to create a rich experience with diverse multi-player and single-player modes.”
Gollop added that Chaos has the most “unrealised potential” of all the acclaimed games he’s worked on over the last 30 years.
“I have spent the last year working on Chaos Reborn, writing the game design, creating a playable prototype and building my team. I intend to raise funds via Kickstarter to complete the project within a year. It will be available for PC, Mac and Linux.”
A listing on Prefundia details aspects of the new game.
“Chaos Reborn is a turn-based strategy game with strong RPG elements and extensive multiplayer and single player options. The core of the game is based on arena battles for 2 to 6 players. The single player mode allows you to customise your wizard character and adventure in the Realms of Chaos, levelling up your wizard and collecting treasures and equipment as you go.”
The Kickstarter campaign is expected to launch early this year.
