In an interview with NowGamer, WWE Champion John Cena revealed how elated he was to appear in a video game.

“I never thought I’d be in one.” he exclaimed. “Not a chance. No way! Not only to be in the game, but to be having these match-ups against my heroes from Wrestlemania, Raw, SmackDown… I was really surprised they got Randy Savage because he’s been kinda… this has been the first opportunity for him in so many games.”

Cena claims to have been a gamer from a young age, harbouring a penchant for wrestling even then.

“When I was growing up, it was games like WWE All Stars that they had. I’d pump quarters in and wrestle as my heroes, and those guys were over-exaggerated, it was easy to pick up and play. [All Stars] is the game I grew up on but it’s totally up to speed with today’s technology and visuals with everything way over the top.”

Cena admits that he used to be a big gamer, but has been put off by the increasing complexity of games in recent years.

“I used to be a huge gamer but they’ve become so complex and the evolution of gaming in general but games like All Stars I warm to because it is so pick up and play and I did get really into it.”

WWE All Stars is out now.

Appearing in a video game is a big deal. I once made a video game starring my friend Steve (called Metal Gear Steve), and he was obviously absolutely stoked. It’s on a slightly bigger scale for Mr John Cena, but I’m sure he and Steve shared a similar feeling of pride.
