2K Games has announced two new modes debuting in the upcoming WWE 2K18: MyPlayer and Road to Glory.

Firstly, MyPlayer allows you to create your own wrestler, picking from eight different classes including Technician, which focuses on grappling and technique, Showboat, which excels in reversals and stamina and six others that you can check out on 2K’s announcement blog.

Like the old Create-A-Wrestler that those of us of a certain age will remember, you can dump attribute points into a number of different areas of your character such as power, speed, and promo ability. Deeper customisation is promised this year, and you’ll be able to unlock hundreds of moves and Superstar parts to use on your WWE Superstar by obtaining loot cases via MyCareer and Road to Glory progression, or by purchasing them with virtual currency.

Road to Glory is a new online mode where, using your MyPlayer, you face off against other budding wrestlers in daily challenges, with the main goal being to face off against contracted WWE characters on pay-per-view events in the game. Before each match you can also apply up to five buffs to your character that increase their stamina or striking ability before the bell rings, or even give you an XP boost.

To get on PPV you must earn a set number of stars in your matches leading up to the big show, or failing that, you can ‘purchase your way into events.’

While I’m aware of Ted DiBiase’s mantra of ‘everybody’s got a price,’ I’m not sure how this will play out. If you’re unaware of NBA 2K18’s VC debacle, a quick Google will tell you that that wasn’t very well-received. We’ll wait to see how this one is put into practice. In the meantime, check out a screenshot gallery of both MyPlayer and Road to Glory by clicking the image below.

WWE 2K18 is scheduled to launch on October 17 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch release date is pencilled in for later this year, too.
