There are a lot of Soulslike experiences following in the footsteps of Fromsoftware. There are some amazing games such as Black Myth Wukong and Mortal Shell, but there are disappointing experiences, too. WUCHANG Fallen Feathers has been a highly anticipated Soulslike because of its gorgeous visuals and impressive trailers. While the game has received a decent reception from critics as well as smashed over 100K players at launch, the unfortunate news is that WUCHANG Fallen Feathers has been bombarded with “overwhelmingly negative” reviews from players.
WUCHANG Fallen Feathers hits over 100K players at launch but is smacked back with negative reviews
WUCHANG Fallen Feathers has just released. Per Steamcharts, it launched with a peak of 114, 132 players in the game, and, as of writing, there are currently over 87,000 players experiencing the new Soulslike.

These numbers are fantastic. On Steam, the game is available for £44.99, and it is also on PS5 and Xbox for the same fee. If you are on Xbox, you can even get it at no additional cost provided you are a Game Pass subscriber.
While the player count is very impressive, the unfortunate news is that the game has been bombarded with negative reviews, resulting in an “overwhelmingly negative” aggregate based on over 5,000 reviews from Steam users.
Looking at the reviews, most of the negativity simply stems from huge performance issues. There is praise for the visuals and the boss fights, but many of the reviews point out that it is basically unplayable in its current state due to major woes such as low FPS, stuttering, and other problems caused by another poorly optimised Unreal Engine 5 experience.
On the PSN store, the game currently has 4-star rating, so it’s likely the experience on the consoles is much smoother. As for critics, the game has a 75 on Metacritic for PS5, 83 for Xbox, and 76 for PC. It’s not in the 90s or high 80s, but it’s a decent critical reception rather than a negative one.
For everyone who has purchased the game on Steam, hopefully the developer, Leenzee, is able to fix the performance. It seems to be a good game for fans of the Soulslike genre, but its beauty is currently hidden by performance warts.
In other news, Sony has acquired a stake in Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco for “strategic partnership”.
