Blizzard’s decision to offer paid-for in-game mount, the Celestial Steed, appears to have been a good one. Wow.com reports the item generated a queue of 140,000 people eager to make a purchase – at $25 a pop that equates to $3.5 million.

Blizzard has also assured WoW players that supply of the item won’t run out, with further stock to be added when needed.

“The number of available mounts is limited in the sense that there is a fixed number of codes available in the store,” posted a Blizzard rep on the WoW forums. “These codes are not generated automatically with each purchase, instead they are generated separately and then added to the store in batches.”

The rep concluded: “The Celestial Steed is not supposed to be a limited time offer only, so we will of course add more codes in case the current batch of codes gets sold out.”
