When THQ announced the development of Worms: A Space Oddity last year the game was to include a host of multiplayer game modes, including online play for up to four players.

It’s now been confirmed that the promised online multiplayer battles have been dropped in favour of ensuring the game delivers the “best possible local multiplayer experience”.

“There will not be an online component in Worms: A Space Oddity,” THQ confirmed with Shacknews.

“We’ve chosen to focus on making the best possible local multiplayer experience through fast-paced gameplay and entertaining party-games. Players will get even more fun and satisfaction from being able to see the reaction of their friends and taunting them with attacks face-to-face.”

While true that Worms is best played with a bunch of mates, given that the latest DS and PSP Worms titles featured online play its absence from the upcoming Wii title is disappointing.
