Sales figures released by way of Microsoft’s Major Nelson reveal the Xbox 360 has now sold more than 17.7 million units worldwide.
According to Vgchartz the actual number of units sold through to consumers is closer to 16 million – the 17.7 million figure refers to units shipped/sold to retailers. Vgchartz uses sample data from retailers which it claims makes for accurate sales projections.
The impressive hardware total is backed up by software sales, notably Halo 3 which has now moved a staggering 8.1 million units since its launch on September 25. Despite early concern that BioWare’s Mass Effect was struggling at retail, Microsoft has announced the title has already sold 1.6 million units worldwide – only six weeks since it hit stores.
