If you’ve been playing World of Warcraft for over two decades, ouch, you’ve probably heard of the Ashbringer. Tirion Fordring’s legendary sword has appeared numerous times in botched forms throughout the MMOs history, but players may finally get the real version of the weapon in WoW Classic

After years and years of dumb jokes and urban legends, it seems that Blizzard is finally ready to introduce the all-powerful sword to World of Warcraft. Or they could be trolling us again.

Ashbringer in World of Warcraft Classic

As discovered by WOWHead in a recent datamine, the real Ashbringer has been discovered inside the files for WoW Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 8 update.

Within a massive list of 500 items, numerous Ashbringer items are listed, such as:

  • Hilt of the Ashbringer
  • Reforged Blade of the Ashbringer
  • Corrupted Emblem (The emblem taken from the shattered blade of the Ashbringer that radiates a dark malignance.)
  • Emblem of the Ashbringer
  • Corrupted Ashbringer
  • Inert Ashbringer
  • Corrupted Ashbringer
  • Ashbringer (this is the important one)

Additionally, Blizzard is now teasing the arrival of a new legendary quest line that players will be able to play in the new update to earn a “storied weapon”. Considering everything we’ve seen here, it seems that we’ll finally be able to get our hands on the actual, real Ashbringer that was scrapped from WoW’s launch.

Of course, nothing is confirmed until the Azeroth version of Excalibur is firmly within my inventory, but it certainly seems like this Season of Discovery is actually adding the sword. If this is another troll, my rage will know no bounds.
