A now-deleted Tweet from Starbreeze studios suggests that Project Redlime – widely believed to be a codename for a new Syndicate game published by EA – will be announced imminently, suggesting a reveal at next week’s gamescom 2011.

“Grand moment approaching. The reveal for Starbreeze and EA’s Project Redlime. Time to meet the press,” wrote Starbreeze’s Rickard Johnson before quickly deleting it – but not before it was spotted by the keen-eyed chaps at PlaySyndicate.de.

Swedish studio Starbreeze previously worked on The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness, and has been rumoured to be working on Project Redlime since August 2007.

Rumours have also circulated that the new Syndicate game will be first-person, ditching the series’ top-down perspective.

A sequel to The Darkness, out in 2012, is being developed by Digital Extremes.

Gamescom takes place in Cologne from the 17 to the 21 August, with EA holding its press event on Tuesday August 16 at 3pm BST. VideoGamer.com is currently eBay’ing its old PlayStation 2 games and hitchhiking its way across the country so it can attend.
