The Wii U will have 50 per cent more processing power than the PS3 and Xbox 360, according to research group Sterne Agee.

As reported by CVG, the claim supposedly stems from comments made by studios who are already working on Wii titles.

“Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50 per cent more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360,” said analyst Arvind Bhatia. “This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.”

Personally, I’m always a bit dubious about this kind of claim. For starters, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are very different machines, so how can the Wii U be 50 per cent more powerful than both?

Besides, we’ve all learned by now that it’s not the raw components that matter; it’s what you do with them that counts. Still, if developers are finding the new console to be a powerful tool, you’ll hear no complaints from me.
