Last week’s launch of Mario Kart 8 helped boost UK Wii U hardware sales by 666 per cent over the previous week, according to data released by Chart Track.
While exact sales figures have yet to be revealed, 82 per cent came from the Mario Kart 8 bundle with the rest split between the existing Premium and Basic hardware packs.
Mario Kart 8 itself shot into second place in the UK All-Formats Chart, becoming the Wii U’s fastest-selling title and the second fastest-selling title in the series.
It was a good week for PlayStation 4, too, with sales increasing by 94 per cent following the release of Watch Dogs.
But will Nintendo be able to maintain strong sales of Wii U as it heads into the second half of the year? With Super Smash Bros. still up its sleeve, the platform holder will no doubt be hoping for another wave of hardware sales later in the year, too.
