Nintendo will host a ‘major’ press event in New York on Thursday, September 13, where it’s expected to announce a release date and price for Wii U.

According to Kotaku, invitations sent out to select US press tease that the event will teach “more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment”, and will be hosted by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

Nintendo has used similar events to announce release dates and prices for its hardware in the past.

The last time Nintendo held a Reggie-hosted event in New York, it announced a release date and price for the 3DS. And the time before that, it announced the same for Wii.

Nintendo could also use the event to announce a selection of games expected to be in development for Wii U, including Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Reports earlier this month suggested that Nintendo had faced “manufacturing issues” with Wii U, forcing the company to delay its European release of the console until “early December”.
