Although there has been nothing official announced at the Leipzig Games Convention in regards to the Wii’s release date and price, Nintendo Germany’s general manager has let slip his thoughts on how much the console will cost.

Reuters reports that Fakesch said: “The price [of the Wii] has not been decided yet, but I expect it to be… less than 250 euros.” In Pounds that works out as around £170 – which while certainly cheap in comparison to the Xbox 360 and PS3, isn’t as cheap as many gamers are hoping it will be. Still, this is only an estimate of the top end of the Wii’s launch price.

Recent reports from Japan price the Wii as low as $170 (£90!), but the only official announcement from Nintendo in regards to the Wii’s price point puts the console somewhere under $250 (£130).

The wait shouldn’t be too much longer though – Nintendo has previously stated that the final details for the Wii’s launch will be revealed in September. A press event is scheduled for September 14 in North America, but what will be revealed is anyone’s guess.
