Wii Sports has suddenly surged in popularity and price on resale sites, possibly owing to the imposed lockdowns and quarantines in place around the world (via Nintendo Life).

PriceCharting, a resale site which tracks sale prices of games across outlets like eBay, Amazon, and GameStop, describes a significant spike in the price for loose and complete copies of the game. Wii Sports was released fourteen years ago, and it isn’t like Nintendo has announced a new version or a port for the incredibly successful sports sim. Ergo, it isn’t confirmed, but it is likely that people are picking up the game to keep themselves entertained while self-isolating indoors.

Earlier this year, the Switch’s exergame, Ring Fit Adventure, saw a similar situation. People quarantined in China were snapping up copies of the game through grey markets, because the game is not officially distributed in the country. The demand caused the price to skyrocket in a few weeks, from $85 to $260. According to PriceCharting, Wii Sports is going for around $24, so there’s no need to stockpile. Yet.
