The NPD Group reports that for the month of July Wii Sports Resort was the top selling single format video game in the US, shifting 508,000 units.

While Wii Sports Resort was the top selling single format title, it was EA’s NCAA Football 10 which sold the most units combined – 376,500 on Xbox 360 and 237,400 on PS3. Wii Fit moved 164,300 units, Mario Kart Wii managed 156,600 units and Pokemon Platinum shifted 116,400 units.

Completing the top ten best-selling titles are Fight Night Round 4 (116,400), New Super Mario Bros. (101,800) and EA Sports Active (96,800).

NPD analyst Anita Frazier commented: “While year-to-date results are weak, there are some big titles set to be released over the next several months, including Madden this month, which should help spur sales. The worst comps should be behind us, and looking beyond August we have The Beatles: Rock Band, Halo 3: ODST, and of course, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to look forward to.”
