Limited Wii supply provides a “fantastic opportunity” for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 this Christmas, high street retailer HMV has said.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com, HMV head of press Gennaro Castaldo said retailer inability to meet the “unprecedented” demand for Nintendo’s console may provide Sony and Microsoft with “slack to pick up”.
Last week official figures from the States revealed that the Wii sold an impressive 519,000 units in October, outselling the PS3 by over four-to-one.
And here in the UK it remains extremely difficult to pick up a Wii with many retailers employing a first-come-first serve policy as they receive stock.
Castaldo said: “They (Nintendo) have reached a golden scenario. Demand keeps growing ahead of supply. It’s the other family members who are responding to it. The more you can’t have something the more you want it.”
It looks like being a bumper Christmas for the games industry, with a number of high quality high profile games available across all platforms.
Castaldo added: “It’s a great Christmas for games.”
