According to MCV, Nintendo intends to release the Wii in time for the Thanksgiving holiday over in the US, and a launch shortly before Friday November 24 is expected in the UK. The industry website also sates that Nintendo has chosen to price its new console at £149, making it the cheapest of the new wave of home consoles.
Where MCV got this info is unknown, but the website also states that stock of the new console will be in ample supply to meet demand, that’s according to senior industry sources.
This price is in keeping with our own news from July, which put the price of the console at £149.99 at online retailer ShopTo.net. However, Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton has been quick to respond to the MCV news. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz he has stated that “They’re not far off, but they’re definitely not right.”
The official word on the Wii’s release date and retail price is expected to be revealed late next week during a number of Nintendo press events taking place around the globe. A US event is scheduled for September 14, with events in the UK and Europe taking place on September 15.
