Earlier this week reports stated that the combined sales of UMD movies had reached 100,000. Today, speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has said that the figure reported is incorrect, with two individual titles having already reached the 100,000 mark.
“At least two UMD movie titles have sold over 100,000 units in the USA,” said the Sony spokesperson. The two movies to have sold over 100,000 are Resident Evil Apocalypse and House of Flying Daggers. The spokesperson went on to say that a combined total for UMD movies sold could be in the region of half a million. Earlier this week at the ELSPA International Games Summit it was confirmed that as many as 25 UMD movies will be available for the PSP’s European launch. Sony believes that the PSP’s movie and music playback is a key to the unit’s success.
