Nine minutes of direct feed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gameplay has been released by Xbox, but be aware that the footage is actually captured by CD Projekt Red using the PC version.
There was a bit of a hoo-ha yesterday when the footage hit YouTube in 1080p 60 frames per second, given the Xbox One version only runs at 900p 30 frames per second.
When the video was first published there was no mention of the footage coming from the PC version, with an update to the video description a few hours later adding: “In game footage provided by CD Projekt Red, captured on a PC”.
Microsoft also offered a statement on the matter to GameSpot.
“This morning we posted a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to our YouTube channels featuring footage provided by CD Projekt Red that was captured from the PC version of the game and may not be reflective of final Xbox One gameplay,” the spokesperson said. “This was in no way intended to misrepresent the title on Xbox One. We have updated the description of the asset to make clear the source and platform of this footage. We apologize for any confusion and look forward to the game arriving on both Xbox One and PC on May 19, 2015.”
Anyway, the impressive footage shows off a quest from the prologue in which Geralt helps out a merchant to retrieve a mysterious box from the swamps.
The Witcher 3 launches May 19 on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
