Following the historic failure of its last live-service title, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, Warner Bros is investing in yet another online-only multiplayer game, but is it the DC answer to Marvel Rivals?

Warner Bros Montreal, the studio behind the underwhelming Gotham Knights, has confirmed that its next game is another live-service game focused on the superhero universe.

Warner Bros may be working on a Marvel Rivals clone

A job listing for a new executive producer reveals that Warner Bros Montreal is still focused on creating live-service titles under its parent company’s umbrella. Despite the failure of the studio’s last attempt, WBM is hiring for an executive producer that will “oversee the production lifecycle” of the project.

The job listing explains that the producer will “oversee post-launch content and live service strategy, ensuring ongoing player engagement” to keep the game going for years.

While this could be another co-op title based in the DC Arkham-verse, Warner Bros has already expressed a desire in creating its own take on Marvel Rivals.

In the past, DC Studios head James Gunn, who is aiming to create an interconnected universe of films, games and TV shows, explained that the team is “totally” interested in having a DC version of Marvel Rivals

The fan interest in a DC clone of Rivals has also been quite high with fans modding in characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman and more into the multiplayer game.

On launch, Rivals was so popular that it cracked 40 million players in less than a week, and has since done wonders for the Marvel brand. In fact, the game is so popular that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige claimed it finally got his own son into the superhero universe

Many fans have created DC mods for Rivals which may be the closest we ever get.

The urge for a DC take on Rivals might also come from the fact that Warner Bros’ prior superhero live service games have been, well, pretty bad. While Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League had some positives, its mission design was so bad that it ruined the rest of the game.

Whatever the case, hopefully this next DC live-service game will be significantly better than its last few attempts. Let’s face it, they were pretty dire.
