After the massive success of Saber Interactive’s Space Marine 2, SEGA quickly pumped out a remastered version of the original 2010 game on PC and Xbox. Released to mostly negative reviews on Steam and labelled a quick cash grab by fans, the Warhammer 40,000: Master Crafted Edition is already dishing out refunds.

Space Marine Master Crafted Edition Refunds

Just weeks after the remaster’s release, developer SneakyBox has started full refunds on the new-old Warhammer 40K game on Steam. Despite advertising claiming the game was “remastered for a new generation”, fans had issues with the game’s minor improvements and new bugs for the price of an entirely new game.

In a statement on Steam at the start of the new Summer Sale, developer SneakyBox and publisher SEGA announced an “extended refund policy” which gives players 100% of their money back regardless of playtime”. The only caveat is that players have to request the refund “before 6pm BST/10pm PST July 10 2025”.

Additionally, potential customers of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition who already own the previously released Anniversary Edition will now receive a 50% discount on checkout. Players who already bought the game are advised to refund their game and then buy it again at the discounted price.

“We know this situation has been frustrating for some of you, and we’re sorry for the confusion it’s caused,” the developer explained. “We hope this approach offers a workable solution while we continue improving the game itself.”

Alongside the new pricing for the game and the aforementioned refunds, SneakyBox has committed to futrue improvements of the remaster. Over “the coming weeks”, the Space Marine remaster will receive a number of patches that aim to fix the game with the following improvements:

Localisation

  • Updated Dutch, Polish, and Italian translations.
  • Improved localisation for game modes, controller options, and key terms (e.g. Skar Boyz).

  • Restored coop live tokens and fixed weapon wheel ammo display.
  • Improved challenge decorators and shield visualisers.
  • Fixed campaign info and map loading inconsistencies.
  • Legacy black screen issue fixed
  • Platform & Controller Support
  • Steam Deck now launches correctly.
  • Improved controller disconnect handling on PC.

Networking

  • Enhanced P2P connection handling to prevent lobby splits.
  • Technical & Build
  • Moved local user profile data to AppData to prevent config crashes.
  • Added memory safety for loadouts and improved fade animations.

Audio & Visual

  • Fixed missing or duplicate SFX events.
  • Updated button textures and fixed VFX issues.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition did launch in a buggy state, and it is overpriced. However, it’s still the same great game underneath its issues, and hopefully new porter SneakyBox can bring the game to the level of quality it should be at.
