Warframe has notched up nearly 50 million players worldwide, Digital Extremes has announced.

The news comes as the popular online shooter celebrates its sixth anniversary, and to celebrate, Digital Extremes is giving away a bunch of free goodies this Wednesday. These include an exclusive landing craft skin and the Dex Excalibur skin, which was made available last year as an anniversary gift.

In addition, all previous anniversary goodies will be released as part of Warframe's latest birthday.

Looking ahead, Digital Extremes will be revamping Plains of Eidolon and Gas City with new gameplay and graphical updates, while The New War and Railjack will bring fresh 'game-changing' content into the mix.

2018 was a bumper year for Warframe, says Digital Extremes. During that time, the game saw some 111 hotfixes, 26 updates, as well as launching on Nintendo Switch. All of this contributed to the game rising from 38 million players last March to the near-50 million milestone it has today.

Warframe originally launched on March 25, 2013 for the PC, before expanding to the PlayStation 4 as a launch title later than year. It later turned up on Xbox One in September 2015, before finally rolling out for the Switch in November last year.
