Gaijin Entertainment, the developer and publisher of WW2 air combat game War Thunder, has announced Enlisted, a new crowdfunded WW2 shooter currently in development for PC.

Developed by Darkflow Software, Enlisted describes itself as an ‘MMO squad based shooter’ that sees around 100 players battling in various WW2 campaigns.

Each campaign will be sold separately, the developer says, with the first two set to be based around the Battles of Moscow and Normandy. Both of those are available to back now individually for $19.99 and $21.99 respectively, with further campaigns set to be introduced once the project hits additional milestones.

Additional weapons are being sold, too, which (perhaps controversially) offer an advantage over their standard counterparts, including a carbine with a higher rate of fire and a rifle capable of holding 20 additional bullets.

The project will be considered a success once crowdfunding reaches $250,000, with console development set to begin once the campaign reaches $1 million.

“Enlisted is an ambitious undertaking, unlike any game we have ever created,” said producer Alexander Nagorny. “It will be a first person shooter decided by the fans, for the fans. They will have direct input into what we create, including things like campaigns, game modes, even which platforms after PC we will support.”

But even if you pick up one of the campaign packs today, don’t expect to be able to play the game until next year. Gaijin says that each campaign will initially be released via Steam Early Access exclusively for crowdfunding supporters, with a closed beta due to begin in the second half of 2017.

And if the project doesn’t succeed, Gaijin says that any money pledged will be placed back into your Gaijin.net account to be spent on other Gaijin products. “But we are sure that ‘Enlisted’ will be released,” the developer says.
