The stylish, cel-shaded shooter Void Bastards is set to be released later this month, on May 29.

Developed by Blue Manchu, the game takes its influence from the likes of Bioshock and System Shock 2; in fact, it actually shares the development director of both: Jonathan Chey.

Check out the release date trailer below, which shows off the game's unique art style:

In a press release for the game, Chey says, 'I love the deep simulational gameplay of BioShock and System Shock 2 – they aren't just run and gun shooters. I wanted to find a way to experience more of that gameplay without having to replay the same story over and over. Wrapping the shooter inside a strategy game turned out to be a great way to do that!'

The game will have players scavenging gear and crafting to survive, in a space prison called the Void Ark, and you have limited inventory space and ammunition. It sounds like an interesting fusion, no?

Void Bastards will be released on Xbox and PC on May 29.
