Vivendi Universal Games has announced that they have acquired the excusive rights to develop and publish games based on the books (and related films) of Robert Ludlum. Robert, who sadly died in 2001, is responsible for the Bourne series of books (which have so far produced two major Hollywood films) and had his first novel published in 1971.

VU Games CEO Bruce Hack commented on the Ludlum deal. “VU Games intends to aggressively establish Ludlum as a top tier games brand with high-quality franchises poised to go head-to-head with other major spy-action games in the industry.”

Properties like Bourne and Covert One naturally lend themselves to video games, and we are excited to bring Robert Ludlum’s stories to life in a way that has never been done before,” said Jeffrey M. Weiner, CEO of Ludlum Entertainment. “Our long-term partnership with VU Games underscores our belief in the creativity and vision that the development team will bring to these exciting new projects.”

The deal lasts for ten years and came into effect on July 13th 2005. We’ll bring you more news if we hear anything more.
