SEGA has announced that the Virtua Tennis series will make its debut on Wii this May, with the release of Virtua Tennis 2009. The Wii version joins the previously announced Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions.

The Wii version will boast the same player roster as Virtua Tennis 2009 on other platforms, including top stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Ana Ivanovic. Over 40 court environments will be playable.

“So many features of the Virtua Tennis series are perfect for the Wii platform,” commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director SEGA Europe. “SEGA are excited to be able to finally bring this to fruition, and the multiplayer Court Games in particular will be great fun to play with the whole family in the comfort of their homes!”

Virtual Tennis 2009 on Wii will also include the official Davis Cup license and World Tour Mode, allowing players to experience the game online.

No mention of the rumoured Wii MotionPlus support was made in the press release. We’ve contacted SEGA for clarification.
