The BBC reports that more than a third of young drivers are more likely to drive faster in real-life after playing a driving game. This information comes from a new poll which questioned 1,000 young drivers on behalf of BSM driving school.

27% of those questioned aged under 24 admitted that they are more likely to take risks on the road after a gaming session, and 34% of those questioned felt that playing video games makes them a better driver.

There might be something in this though, with more than half of the frequent video game players passing their test first time, compared to only 45% for the infrequent gamers.

Although far from conclusive, BSM’s road safety consultant Robin Cummins believes the results show an ‘indisputable‘ link between gaming and dangerous driving. He adds: “With more than 200 young people killed each year due to speeding alone, it’s crucial that they learn to ‘keep it real’ on the road.
