Don’t expect to see Half-Life 3, Portal 3 or Left 4 Dead 3 revealed at E3 next week: Valve is sitting out this year’s show.

The company confirmed that it would not be exhibiting at next week’s event to GamesBeat, although its virtual reality headset, the ‘HTC Vive’, may be on display via third-party partners.

Valve has skipped E3 before, of course, but the decision to sit out this year’s is somewhat more puzzling given the range of hardware it has coming up later in 2015.

Besides the HTC Vive, Valve also intends to launch the Steam Controller and Steam Link before Christmas, with the two pieces of hardware going on sale early at GAME this October.
