Riot Games has unveiled its next agent coming to free-to-play shooter Valorant as Norwegian operative Deadlock.

Deadlock is a new Sentinel role character, coming armed with “cutting edge” nanowire. That’s right, she uses this futuristic fibre as part of her skillset, with abilities that can trap and slow down unsuspecting Agents caught in her web. The studio made the reveal as part of the VCT Masters Finals, currently being held in Tokyo, Japan.

Her abilities include GravNet which fires a special grenade at her enemies which, upon contact, will force an opponent to crouch and move slowly. She can also keep track of an area thanks to her Sonic Sensor which will alert players to any enemies making sounds in its operating area. Then, she also has access to a Barrier Mesh ability which, as the name implies creates a barrier blocking enemy movement and allowing you to create chokepoints.

Finally, her Annihilation ability will see the agent equip a Nanowire Accelerator. When fired, this device will capture the first enemy targeted and wrap them up in a cocoon, sort of like Valorant’s answer to Spider-Man. The hapless victim will then be pulled along the path that the nanoweave has left behind until they reach they end, at which point they’re instantly killed. The opposing team will get the chance to save the poor sap from this fate, providing they can destroy the cocoon first, that is.

Deadlock will be coming along as part of the game’s massive Episode 7 Act 1 update in just a few days, which will also see the long awaited debut of a brand new Team Deathmatch mode. So there’s plenty to look forward to when the Valorant Episode 7 Act 1 update drops this Tuesday, June 27 on PC.
