Epics Games vp Mark Rein has told Joystiq that development of Unreal Tournament 3 for Xbox 360 is already well underway, it’s just that the game had to be put on hold so the development team could focus on the PC and PlayStation 3 versions.
“We had the game up and running on all three platforms up until last spring. In fact Official Xbox Magazine came out and played the game for a great cover story they did on it,” said Rein. “We stopped working on the 360 version so we could concentrate our efforts on shipping the various PC and PS3 versions. Once we get those out of the way, and take some time to enjoy the holidays with our friends and families, we’ll start working on the 360 version again.“
Although well underway, the Xbox 360 version still has some way to go before shipping.
“… we have simple LAN play but no Xbox Live implementation yet and we need to work with Microsoft to figure out how to accommodate mods on their platform,” explained the Epic front man.
VideoGamer.com’s very own Will Freeman got hands on time with the Xbox 360 version back at Games Convention 2007 and it was already shaping up very nicely – Xbox 360 fans have nothing to worry about.
UT3 is scheduled for release on PC next Friday with the PlayStation 3 version touch and go for a pre-Christmas date.
