Dave Jones may not be a name that means much to you, but his influence on a certain series of games has been massive. For he, ladies and gents, is the creator of the Grand Theft Auto series, and is also the head of his own studio, Real Time Worlds. So if you wanted to create a game based on the old cops ‘n robbers premise, then he has a fairly good pedigree.

Real Time Worlds has announced that their first title will be a massive-multiplayer online game, to be published by Korean outfit Webzen, whose speciality is online titles.

Details of the game at the moment are scarce, but the premise will revolve around players being either a cop or crim and battling out in turf wars around real-world modelled cities. Again, whilst details are being kept close to the Company’s proverbial chest, a large degree of customisation is promised, in terms of a player’s look, weapons and even music and – interestingly – environment.

Actual play-mechanics have not been made clear at this time, however, but Mr Jones is keen to share his vision, “As an avid gamer and creator of many single player games, it has been my dream to create an online game experience that provides the player with the ultimate freedom to do whatever he wants, in a thriving, living environment. When looking for a publishing partner for APB, it was imperative to find a company that was a worldwide leader in online games and we found that in Webzen, Inc.,”
