Midway has announced that it now expects Unreal Tournament 3 for PlayStation 3 to ship in during the first quarter of its 2008 financial year (January 1 – March 31). This delay will come as a major blow for the PlayStation 3 and its owners, with UT3 looking to be the premiere FPS for the console this Christmas.
There is some good news though, with Epic Games vp Mark Rein confirming that the PC version “is still on track for November with a downloadable demo to be made available prior to retail release.“
It’s also not out of the question that UT3 for PS3 will make it to stores this year.
“Yes, there is a chance it will come out in December,” said Rein on the Epic Games forums. “As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay. But our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once it’s ready and is the best game we can deliver.“
Rein also notes that the delayed PS3 release will enable this version to ship with “all of the same maps as the PC version which wasn’t previously expected to be the case“.
A firm release date for UT3 for PC shouldn’t be far off now so look out for further updates soon.
