David O Russel, the director behind Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees, has turned down the chance to helm Sony’s movie adaptation of the Uncharted video game franchise.

The LA Times reports that Russel and the studio couldn’t agree terms for the project, forcing its producers to go back to the drawing board. In addition to securing a new director, it’s thought the search is now on for a star or two to join the project as leads.

All this means that Sony’s hopes of fast-tracking the movie for a summer 2011 release are gone.
