“I have in fact made the decision to leave Naughty Dog,” Richmond confirmed to IGN this evening. “I love the company and the people and know that they will continue to create awesome games going forward.”
He leaves the company to join League of Legends developer Riot Games.
“On a happier note, after careful consideration and exploration I have joined Riot Games,” he continued. “There is some really innovative stuff going on here that I can’t wait to be a part of.”
Richmond joined Naughty Dog in 2008, leading development on Uncharted 2’s multiplayer and serving as game director on Uncharted 3. It isn’t known who will lead development on Uncharted PS4 in his place.
His departure follows shortly after the news of other high profile exits from Sony, including Sony Santa Monica’s Seth Killian and Stig Asmussen, DriveClub’s game director Col Rodgers, and Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig.
Sony has yet to formally announce Richmond’s departure.
UPDATE: SCEA says that the “development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted” by Richmond’s departure. A release date for Uncharted has yet to be announced.
