GfK Chart Track reports that Fable III has entered the All Formats All Price video game chart at No.1, beating a host of major new releases to the top spot.

The heavily advertised Xbox 360 exclusive took the top spot from Fallout: New Vegas which slipped two places to No.3. FIFA 11 moved up one place to No.2 and Just Dance 2 also climbed to No.4.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II is the week’s second highest new entry at No.5, Smackdown vs Raw 2011 takes seventh place and The Sims 3 on consoles sneaks into the Top 10 at No.9.

The week’s other major release, the critically adored Rock Band 3, failed to make much of impression, debuting at No.26. Wannabe rival The X-Factor begins its life at No.37, but its best is surely still to come.

In a week packed with high profile sequels, Microsoft and Lionhead will be over the moon with the chart-topping Fable III. Given the huge sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed – around eight million units – and the multi-platform advantage, Fable III’s clear victory over the Star Wars title does come as a slight surprise.

The major failure of the week comes from EA and MTV Games’ Rock Band 3, its debut at No.26 doing nothing to calm talk that the music game bubble has burst.

Ubisoft’s Shaun White Skateboarding also appears to have failed to attract consumer attention, missing out on a Top 40 position.

Friday sees the release of two new James Bond games, Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs, The Fight, Time Crisis: Razing Storm, Football Manager 2011 and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. We’re putting our money on Football Manager 2011 doing the business for SEGA and Sports Interactive.
