Activision’s Spider-man 3 proves it is no one week wonder, topping the All Formats video game chart for a second successive week and managing a 26% rise in sales over its debut week. This is largely down to a surge in sales on the PlayStation 2 – up 73%.
Sales of Spider-man 3 on Xbox 360 are down, but this is to be expected when a game on the scale of Command & Conquer 3 is vying for gamers’ money. C&C3 leaps from No.20 all the way to second in the chart, with the newly released Xbox 360 game accounting for 82% of sales.
Wii Play drops a place to No.3 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6, now Platinum, makes a solid comeback to end the week at No.4 one place above FIFA 07. Cooking Mama is boosted by the Wii release and its climb to No.6 secures 505 Games its first All Formats Top 10 position. Final Fantasy is the week’s top selling DS title, up from No.11 to No.7, replacing Pokemon Ranger.
Friday is a little thin on the ground in terms of new releases, but Spider-man on PS3 and the budget release of PES6 for Xbox 360 should strengthen each title’s position in next week’s chart. With the Halo 3 Beta on every Xbox 360 gamer’s mind, don’t be surprised to see an upsurge in sales of the beta-equipped Crackdown.
