Chart Track reports that Resident Evil 5 has entered the All Formats All Prices chart at No.1, becoming the fastest selling game in the franchise and Capcom's biggest ever UK launch.
The game sold 55 per cent on Xbox 360 and 45 per cent on PS3 and is the largest All Formats No.1 since Call of Duty: World at War's second week towards the end of 2008. Sales were also stronger than FIFA 09's Christmas No.1 week and account for 27.1 per cent of all revenue from console games this week.
SEGA's Empire: Total War slides seven places to No.8 (sales down a massive 70 per cent), while SEGA's Mario & Sonic heads in the opposite direction, up seven places to No.10. Wii Fit is at No.2, HAWX is up one place to No.3, Professor Layton is up two places to No.4 and Killzone 2 slips to No.5. FIFA 09 is at No.6, Call of Duty: World at War is still going strong at No.7 and Halo Wars sees a 60 per cent drop off, but clings on to a Top 10 spot at No.9.
Sony's SOCOM: Confrontation is the week's second highest new entry at No.11.
While there's nothing out on Friday likely to reach Resident Evil 5 levels, look out for strong new entries from GTA: Chinatown Wars on DS (most likely to cause a surprise change at the top of the chart), MadWorld on Wii, WWE Legends of WrestleMania and Resistance: Retribution for PSP.
