Together with its budget price and massive fan base, Liberty City Stories doesn’t look likely to let go of the top spot any time soon. Prey, one of the biggest games of the summer, couldn’t claim the top position, despite GTA seeing a 34% fall in sales. Prey did manage to claim the No.1 spot in the Xbox 360 and PC chart, and as a point of interest the Xbox 360 version accounted for a 77% share of the game’s total sales. Not bad for a game that costs around twice that of the PC version.
Elsewhere New Super Mario Bros. drops to No.3 and sees a 27% fall in sales, while Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on handhelds sees a gain of 73% (thanks to massive hype over the movie) and jumps four places to No.4. Ubisoft’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The legend of Jack Sparrow only manages to enter the chart at No.10, whilst Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II re-enters the chart at No.9 thanks to the release of the Xbox 360 version. In a week totally dominated by movie tie-ins THQ’s Cars also makes a chart new entry at No. 16.
Releases this week are unlikely to make any real impact on the chart, so expect much the same situation in seven days. One game that could make a small splash is the movie tie-in to Michael Mann’s Miami Vice on the PSP, but given the title is only to appear on PSP, a place inside the top 20 would be a job well done.
