ChartTrack reports that EA’s Slightly Mad Studios developed Need for Speed: Shift has entered the All Formats All Prices chart at No.1, with 52 per cent of first week sales on PS3. Xbox 360 took 44 per cent of sales, while PC and PSP shared the remaining 5 per cent.

With a new chart leader, Activision’s Guitar Hero 5 and Codemasters’ DiRT 2 each fall one place to No.2 and No.3 respectively. Eidos’ Batman: Arkham Asylum is also down one place to No.4, while Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort holds at No.5.

Bethesda’s WET is new at No.6, followed by The Beatles: Rock Band which is down three to No.7, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare at No.8, Wii Fit at No.9 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 at No.10.

With Halo 3: ODST hitting stores tomorrow it’s hard to see NFS Shift spending a successive week at the top, but just how big will the latest game in the Halo franchise be? After the runaway success of the first Professor Layton title, a great deal is also expected of the follow-up, Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box. We also expect a strong new entry for Activision’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and a possible Top 20 position for Wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction.
