Max Payne 3 has entered the UK All Formats All Prices video game chart at No.1, beating off competition from click-fest Diablo III.

Rockstar's well-received third-person shooter is the first game in the May Payne series to debut at No.1, outperforming the launch week of Max Payne 2 by 10 to 1 - although the second game was only available on PC initially before coming to consoles.

While Max managed the biggest UK launch since Mass Effect 3, Blizzard's Diablo III wasn't too far behind in second spot. The fantasy RPG was 8,000 units behind Rockstar's game (despite only launching on one platform), and still managed to be the 12th fastest selling PC game in the UK ever.

Elsewhere in the chart, last week's No.1, Sniper Elite V2, slips down to 4th spot, while EA have FIFA Street at No.3 and FIFA 12 at No.5.

Sales figures for Max Payne 3 haven't been released, so it's hard to judge just how well the game has performed, but beating Diablo III is no small achievement - although the PC game will likely have sold a considerable number of units digitally.

This week sees the release of Ghost Recon Future Solider, DiRT Showdown and Dragon's Dogma. We reckon Ubisoft's shooter has the best chance of toppling Max and Diablo.
