Nintendo is celebrating an All Formats All Prices video game chart No.1 thanks to the huge launch week sales of Mario Kart Wii. The game has smashed previous Nintendo released Wii game records and also become the eighth fastest selling video game in UK history.
So popular was the game that weekly sales were greater than the combined week one totals of the five previous Mario Wii titles (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario).
Wii games featuring Mario account for 21.2% of all Wii software sales since the launch of the Wii in the UK.
Sony’s Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is pushed down to second place, followed by Mario & Sonic at No.3, PES 2008 at No.4 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 at No.5. Condemned 2 drops to No.6, Guitar Hero III falls to No8 and Call of Duty 4 climbs a place to No.9. The PC and DS releases of Assassin’s Creed help the game back up the chart, but only as far as No.15.
