With new releases all but dried-up the chart has a very familiar look to it this week. Despite Call of Duty 4 and FIFA 08 both making a move up the chart, it’s SEGA’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games which claims gold and is now only a week away from taking the coveted Christmas No.1 trophy. It’s still a close race though, with only 2,500 units separating the top three titles.
Mario & Sonic sales are so high that the game is outselling the next-best Wii title, Super Mario Galaxy, by two-to-one. This is despite Galaxy climbing three places to No.11.
Pre-race favourite Need for Speed ProStreet will need to come up on the outside if it wants to take the top spot at Christmas, having slipped two places to No.4. Closing out the Top Five is EA’s The Simpsons Game.
The strong sales of DS and Wii titles continue with Brain Training at No.6 and More Brain Training at No.9. All seven single format exclusives in the All Formats Top 20 are on DS or Wii.
With no new releases planned for Friday, Christmas No.1 looks set to be a battle between the current high flyers. Can Mario & Sonic hold on or will Need for Speed ProStreet make a last gasp surge to for the top?
