Sales dropped by 22%, but Grand Theft Auto IV was still able to hold on at the top for a fifth successive week, preventing Codemasters’ Race Driver: GRID from claiming pole.
GRID also claimed second place in the Xbox 360 chart behind GTA 4. It wasn’t so successful on PS3 though, having to settle for third place behind GTA 4 and Haze. Elsewhere in the All Formats Top 10 Mario & Sonic is up to No.3 and Wii Play is up to No.4, while football fever sees FIFA 08 climb one place to No.8 and PES 2008 up two places to No.5. SEGA Superstar Tennis is also rejuvenated thanks to a strong retailer promotion which sees the game jump back into the Top 10 at No.7.
The half-term week saw seven of the Top 10 titles gain sales, with only GTA 4, Haze and Mario Kart Wii missing out.
The second week on release for Rock Band on Xbox 360 saw sales drop 39%, enough to send the game out of the Top 10 and down to No.12. This also allowed Activision’s Guitar Hero III to claim a victory holding strong one place higher at No.11.
Activision was also able to celebrate a chart re-entry thanks to the release of Quake Wars for Xbox 360 and PS3. The game misses out on a Top 10 place though, having to settle for No.15.
Age of Conan’s impressive launch took a slight tumble, with week two sales down 69% and a chart slide from No.2 to No.16. Stock problems for Wii Fit also ensured the title was unable to re-enter the Top 40.
Ninja Gaiden II is the big Xbox 360 release of the week, but it’s likely to be Activision’s LEGO Indiana Jones which charts highest and could even replace GTA 4 at the top.
