A quick glance at the chart above will reveal that FIFA maintains its top spot, but the all prices chart (not shown) tells a different story. Liberty City Stories on PlayStation 2 has been released at a budget price so doesn’t show up in the full price chart, but rest assured, the game is sitting pretty as the top selling game of the week. It may be a port of the PSP game, but that hasn’t stopped GTA Liberty City Stories from becoming the fastest selling PS2 game of the year.

As expected, the launch of the DS Lite has catapulted plenty of DS software into the chart. Brain Training (a budget title) was the third top selling game of the week, whilst Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Tetris DS, Mario kart DS, and Metroid Prime: Hunters also saw considerable boosts in sales.

The week’s highest new entry is Over the Hedge at No.9, which will surely build momentum as the kids go mad over the movie. Also scraping into the top ten is Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires from Koei, no doubt aided by the lower than usual retail price for the Xbox 360 version. LocoRoco on the PSP makes a disappointing entry at No.22, suggesting that it’s a game that will fail to gain the commercial success it deserves.

This week’s big release is probably New Super Mario Bros. and on the back of the launch of the DS Lite should make a real impact at the top of the chart. Other new releases likely to challenge for higher positions are Super Monkey Ball Adventure, Micro Machines V4, and Untold Legends: The Warrior’s Code.
