EA’s FIFA 07 jumps back to the top of the chart, moving ahead of Need for Speed Carbon and Gears of War. Last week’s number one, Gears of War, has a less impressive second week, with sales falling by a hefty 42%.

On the PlayStation 2, FIFA 07 has outsold PES 6 by a factor of 3:2 since release. However, on the Xbox 360 it’s PES 6 which holds the lead by a similar ratio. The PS2 release of Call of Duty 3 helps the multi-format title hold on to seventh place, and this week’s biggest gainer in the Top ten is THQ’s Bratz: Forever Diamondz, which saw a 45% increase in sales.

Activision and RedOctane’s Guitar Hero II makes a solid new entry at No.16, with a threefold improvement on first week sales of its predecessor. On the whole it wasn’t a good week for new releases, with a host of big titles failing to make the top forty. Warhammer: Mark of Chaos, EA Sports Cricket 07, Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Party and Happy Feet all flopped. Happy Feet should improve once the movie hits cinemas.

Even the usual strong first week sales of Xbox 360 releases couldn’t save Superman Returns and Sonic the Hedgehog, which entered at the Xbox 360 chart at No.11 and No.8 respectively.

New releases hoping to challenge the chart leaders this week include Rainbow Six Vegas, Viva Piñata and Football Manager 2007 for Xbox 360, Football Manager Handheld 2007 and Sonic Rivals for PSP, The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II – The Rise of the Witch King for PC, and Yoshi’s Island DS.
