EA’s FIFA Street – which wasn’t available to buy at GAME and gamestation – has entered the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart at No.1, the publisher’s third new release in a row to do so.

FIFA Street, which reboots the series after a four year wait, got off to a cracking start with higher sales than all other FIFA Street opening week sales.

EA has another reason to celebrate, after claiming the top four places in the chart for only the second time – the first was back in 2003 with FIFA 2004, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Need for Speed: Underground.

Mass Effect 3 slips to No.2 with a 74 per cent drop in sales, followed by SSX and FIFA 12. Mario Party 9 holds at No.5.

RAGE is a big mover, up 13 places to No.7 thanks to a 47 per cent sales increase week on week.

Twisted Metal from Sony is the week’s only other new release, but makes a somewhat subdued splash at No.12 – despite being one of the only new releases to appear in GAME stores.

Whilst FIFA Street appears to have survived just fine without GAME, it wasn’t such a good result for SEGA’s Yakuza: Dead Souls, but the game was always likely to struggle even if it had been stocked at GAME and gamestation. Blades of Time and Inazuma Eleven 2 also failed to chart inside the Top 40.

Next week could also be tricky for new releases, with a number of biggish brands having the potential to flop. We reckon Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is most likely to chat inside the Top 10, but Ninja Gaiden 3, Kid Icarus and Kinect Rush may miss out. SEGA’s Total War: Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai will do just fine on Steam so its chart performance won’t paint a true picture.
